Mott Community College in Michigan closed due to active shooter threat

Mott Community College (MCC) in Flint, Michigan, has been closed due to what the college is calling an “active shooter threat,” it tweeted.

The threat was made at around 6:30am local time, according to MCC Police Chief Theresa Stephens-Lock.

"The dispatch received a call and notified myself and other officers. As of right now, we have not been able to validate the threat. We have federal agencies, state police and Flint police working with us," she said, as quoted by local news website Click On Detroit.

The college's public safety department said during a news conference that the person who called in the threat has been identified.

MCC has several campuses, with the main one affected by the alert boasting a student body of about 8,000.

Classes are set to resume at all campuses at 1pm local time.

Continue to check email, social media and the college web site for updates before traveling to campus locations,” the college said on its Facebook page.
