RT AMERICA HOST CHRIS HEDGES NOMINATED FOR DAYTIME EMMY AWARD

WASHINGTON, MARCH 23, 2017 – RT America’s Chris Hedges, host of ‘On Contact with Chris Hedges’, is nominated for Outstanding Information Talk Show Host in the 44th annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Chris Hedges is not a traditional TV man. The author and former foreign correspondent has shaken up the current media landscape by not only amplifying dissident voices, but celebrating them. Hedges invites to the program those who constitute the bête noire of the establishment – activists, intellectuals, revolutionaries and radicals – who expose corporate greed and the assault on democratic systems and the ecosystem.

“The press, even the for-profit press, has a responsibility to work for the common good. It has been the goal of ‘On Contact’ to fill this vacuum on the airwaves and give a voice to those the dominant power structures have sought to marginalize or silence,” says Hedges.

Incorporating critical analysis gleaned from his own reporting and intellectual library, Chris Hedges, who is also a Presbyterian minister with a master’s degree from Harvard Divinity School, contextualizes the endless wars, mounting inequality and the steady erosion of our civil liberties with a humanity that is essential on today’s airwaves.

Hedges is the author of 11 books, including several New York Times best-sellers. He previously spent some 20 years – 15 of them with the New York Times – reporting from Central America, the Middle East, Africa and the Balkans. In 2002, he won the Pulitzer Prize with a team of reporters for his coverage of global terrorism. He has been an outspoken critic of the Iraq War and criticized the media coverage at the time of the military campaign as “shameful cheerleading.” Hedges writes a weekly column for the online news magazine Truthdig. He holds a B.A. in English Literature from Colgate University in addition to his master’s.

‘On Contact with Chris Hedges’ is recorded at RT America’s New York bureau and airs Saturdays at 4pm, EST, with repeats at 6:30pm and 10:30pm.
