RT BRIDGES VR AND DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKING FORMATS AT MIPTV 2017

MOSCOW, April 3, 2017– RT, a leader among news broadcasters in embracing the 360-degree video format, will share its expertise in integrating panoramic videos into documentary features at MIPTV 2017, one of the world’s largest annual content markets. RT will present Project Duterte, a film produced by the network’s documentary channel RTDoc, which expands on traditional filmmaking by integrating panoramic video into the process, at the special expert showcase.

“RT team has developed a fascinating technique giving the viewer a chance to take a 360 look at the most captivating parts of a documentary. By combining the flat format with the 360 video in one project, we put ourselves ahead of the curve – no one has ever attempted this before,” says Eduard Chizhikov, head of RT360.

RT’s VR session Integration of 360 Video: Pioneering a New Method of Storytelling will take place on April 4. Project Duterte discusses the controversial drug war waged by President Rodrigo Duterte in the Philippines. RT correspondent and author of Project Duterte, Marina Kosareva, who managed to secure an exclusive interview with the President of the Philippines during the making of the film, will speak at the showcase alongside Chizhikov.

Visitors of the MIPTV 2017 virtual reality pavilion will have a chance to view firsthand the Space 360 project – a team effort by RT, the Roscosmos State Corporation, and Energia Rocket and Space Corporation – which brought audiences the first-ever panoramic view of planet Earth as seen from space in November 2016. VR Theater viewers can also catch a showing of RT’s VR-film about parkour teams from Gaza.

RT was among the first global news media outlets to adopt 360 technology for news production. RT’s panoramic videos are available on Facebook, YouTube, and the RT360 app (available at Google Play, AppStore, and Oculus Store).
