At least 36 people have lost their lives since the demonstrations spiralled into violence in April.

Venezuelans have been suffering months of food shortages and soaring prices.

Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez told RT Spanish this week that the portrayal of the anti-government protests by some media outlets and foreign powers as an all-out civil war distorts the reality of the situation, and hinders the government’s efforts to reconcile with the opposition.

On Thursday eight Latin American nations – Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Paraguay – condemned the violence and urged the government to respect the human rights of its citizens.
