EX-ENGLAND INTERNATIONAL STAN COLLYMORE TO BE RT’S SPECIAL HOST FOR FIFA CONFEDERATIONS CUP 2017

MOSCOW, MAY 22, 2017 - RT, the global TV news network, announced a partnership with Stan Collymore, one of England’s most high-profile ex-international footballers and a multi award-winning journalist, to be its special host for the forthcoming FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 in Russia.

This is the first project that Stan has undertaken with RT – and he already has a jam-packed schedule. In the run-up to the tournament, Stan visited Russia for a special football match with former stars of the Russian national team, in honour of the opening of the Confederations Cup Park in St. Petersburg. He will also pay a visit to the various host cities and stadiums.

After the match, Stan had the opportunity to chat with Marcel Desailly, French World Cup and European Cup champion, about the hugely welcoming atmosphere they’ve encountered in St. Petersburg as well as the importance of the Confederations Cup as a tournament in the run-up to the 2018 World Cup.

Stan will be back in Russia throughout the Confederations Cup, reporting from key matches across the four host cities of Moscow, Sochi, St. Petersburg and Kazan, as well as providing exclusive access for the RT audience from behind the scenes, including interviews with top players and football figures.

Stan says: “I am delighted to be partnering with RT as its special host for the Confederations Cup 2017. During my time in Russia, I’ll be visiting the stadiums, meeting fans, and seeing the incredible diversity of St. Petersburg, Kazan, Sochi and Moscow, as well as interviewing big football names in Russia, the UK and Europe, bringing a fresh, honest perspective a year out from the biggest event in sport, the FIFA World Cup in 2018.

“Football is my life, and I can’t wait to be out meeting the fans and exploring this incredibly beautiful and diverse country to give a flavour of what to expect this summer in the Confederations Cup… and next summer's big one! From Spartak-Alania vs. Liverpool as a player to Manchester United vs. Chelsea at the Luzhniki stadium as a broadcaster, my visits around the world to date have been fun, but this trip to Russia looks to be the best yet. Come on!”
