Attorney-General Jeff Sessions mocked online for ‘amnesia’ in Russia probe testimony

Attorney-General Jeff Sessions mocked online for ‘amnesia’ in Russia probe testimony

The testimony of US Attorney General Jeff Sessions before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Russian ties has frustrated netizens, as the DOJ’s highest-ranking official said he could not recall a number of key incidents.

Sessions was grilled on his role in the firing of former FBI Director James Comey, who appeared before the committee last week, his recusal from the Russia probe and his contact with Russian officials.

“I do not recall,” was the response delivered by Sessions on several occasions, leaving the Twitterati to conclude that the 70-year-old US attorney general was suffering from a bout of amnesia, or worse.

One Twitter user quipped that cannabis smokers have a better memory than Sessions, referencing the AG’s controversial advance of the war on drugs.

Some questioned why someone with such a bad memory was the head of the US Department of Justice.

Sessions testified that he had no meeting with Russian officials at the Mayflower Hotel but attended a reception with staff of at least two dozen people including President Donald Trump.

He rejected reports that he may have had an undisclosed meeting with Russian Ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak at the event, saying he recalled no private conversations with any Russian officials at that reception.

“If any brief interaction occurred in passing with the Russian ambassador, I do not remember it,” Sessions said.
