2 dead, 3 hospitalized following crane collapse at Cheshire building site (PHOTOS)
Two people have died after being trapped under a collapsed crane at a building site in Crewe, northern England.
Three others were injured, including the driver of the crane who was airlifted to Royal Stoke Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

A parent and child who were in a nearby house damaged by the falling crane were hospitalized as a precaution and will be relocated while an investigation into the incident unfolds.

Some five hours after the incident, emergency crews are still working to recover the trapped bodies of the two deceased. Their next of kin have been notified.
“This is a truly tragic incident, and our deepest condolences go out to the families affected at this extremely difficult time,” said Chief Superintendent Matt Welsted.
Due to an incident Dunwoody Way in CREWE is closed at the junction of WEST STREET near to Morrison's. Avoid the area if possible.

The crane collapsed at a new housing development near Morrisons supermarket on Dunwoody Way in the centre of the town at 4:30pm local time, according to the police statement.

The site remains closed off. It is not yet clear what led to the crane’s collapse.

“This is a multi-agency operation and we are working closely with the Health and Safety Executive, Local Authority, and Building Control to establish the full circumstances of the incident,” added Welsted.
