Police hunt gunmen after Chechen village raid

Police are trying to track down an armed group of militants in Russia’s southern republic of Chechnya. They say the group stormed a village, killing three people and burning down five houses. The group is believed to be

Up to 60 armed men attacked the village of Benoy-Vedeno, located south of the republic's capital Grozny shortly after midnight on Friday. They opened fire on local people, shooting three dead and wounding another.

The local police have vowed the gunmen will be found.

“The militants say they killed 20 people. This is not true. A special operation is underway at the moment. We are tracking them down. We will find and eliminate them wherever they are,” said Ruslan Alkhanov, the head of local police.
