US couple finally break husband’s ‘family curse’ to welcome first girl in 137 years
A South Carolina couple have welcomed the husband’s family’s first baby girl in 137 years. The record-breaking birth was marked with a 12-ft tall, 24-ft wide billboard along a South Carolina highway.
Will and Kelen Settle welcomed Carter Louise Settle on June 25, shattering the Settle family’s 137-year male-only tradition.

The birth announcement was the handiwork of Kelen’s colleagues who erected the uber-pink announcement on a highway between Bluffton and Savannah.
“When I first saw it, it was an ‘Oh my God’ moment,” Will told ABC News. “It is so pink [and] so large. It’s pretty obnoxious, I hate to say. It is so in your face, you wouldn’t believe it.”
“I just assumed I was going to have another boy,” said Kelen who has a son from a previous marriage, saying ,the entire family were “shocked” to learn that they would finally have a baby girl in the family.
