Irish paper’s Lukaku gaffe taking Twitter by Stormzy

Irish paper’s Lukaku gaffe taking Twitter by Stormzy

Romelu Lukaku might be one of the most recognizable faces in sport at the moment – but not identifiable enough for one newspaper.

The Herald in Ireland led with the story of Manchester United’s £75 million signing of the former Everton man on its backpage Monday.

However, the photo accompanying the piece, headlined ‘Lukaku is ready for work,’ is not of the 24-year-old Belgian international, rather it is of UK Grime artist Stormzy in a Manchester United top.

Revelling in the schadenfreude, Twitter users have been merciless over the gaffe.

Evening Herald Editor Alan Steenson apologized for the mistake in a statement on the paper's website, saying: “We are totally embarrassed and want to say sorry to all involved and our readers for the error. We will keep our eye on the ball in future."

Meanwhile, Stormzy has taken to Twitter tell fans he is less than amused by the unfortunate gaffe.

The picture seems to have been taken from promotional material for an online video in which Stormzy interviews former United star David Beckham for MUTV.

At the end of the video, the musician is seen holding up a Manchester United jersey with ‘Stormzy’ printed across the top of the number seven.
