Ah, nuts! Squirrel leaves 45,000 people without power in San Diego
Thousands of San Diego households were reportedly left without power after a mischievous squirrel interfered with high voltage electricity wires.
Some 45,000 residents around the north of city were left without electricity Tuesday after the disruption at a substation, according to the San Diego Union Tribune.
Substations house high voltage generators used to deliver electricity to customers.

The outage is being pinned on a single squirrel which appears to have roasted itself on power lines, shutting down the substation in the process, according to NBC San Diego.
The blackout occurred around 12.30pm local time, with San Diego Gas & Electric informing customers online that its engineers were “working hard to repair” the substation wires.

Power has since been restored to the affected areas.
