European Chechens won’t hide Politkovskaya suspect

Rustam Makhmudov, who is suspected of killing journalist Anna Politkovskaya, has no chance to find help among Chechens living in Europe, according to the vice-president of the World Chechen Congress. The Chechen national Makhmudov is on the international

Ramzan Ampukaev, who is living in Belgium now, said European Chechens are the ones whom Politkovskaya was trying to protect with her investigations and are eager to see her killer face the punishment.

“We will do everything to see him in police’s hands,” he said to Kommersant daily.

This follows an announcement by the head of Russia’s Investigation Committee of the General Prosecutor’s Office Aleksander Bastrykin, who said Makhmudov is hiding in the European Union.
