TNK-BP expats allowed back into Russia

The row between TNK-BP shareholders is in full swing. One of the company's owners, Viktor Vekselberg, has called an extraordinary meeting of directors next Monday. It will consider canceling the contract of CEO Robert Dudley.

Meanwhile, Dudley has only just heard from migration authorities that his work permit will be renewed, along with other foreign employees.

The Federal Migration Agency says there is no need for BP’s expatriate staff to leave Russia as the Agency is issuing 49 work permits by the end of July, 6 of which will be issued to senior managers on Thursday July 3, so everyone will have their visas renewed on time.

That will mean 4 Vice Presidents, a Department Director and the Finance Director will be able to continue working.

President Robert Dudley, who is at the centre of the conflict between Russian and British sides, will have his visa renewed before the end of July.

“We have received the papers for 49 workers, 6 of which will be issued as a matter of urgency. They will not need to leave Russia to have their visas renewed,” assures Konstantin Poltoranin, thespokesman of Russia’s Federal Migration Agency.

The issuance of visas means TNK-BP’s operation will not be interrupted. But there is still confusion over the number of work permits.

Altogether TNK BP filed documents for 71, while Federal Migration Agency says it received only 49 and over 140 expatriates currenlly employed in TNK-BP altogether.
