Nodar Bibilov died near his home as a result of a blast.

The head of South Ossetia Press and Information Committee Irina Gagloeva says that the incident is being investigated.

“Around 6 o'clock a terror attack was carried out. Georgian special services are connected to this. As a result of it, the head of the local police station died. Attempts to physically eliminate him were carried out more than once by the Georgian side. The Ossetian side is sure that it was the work of the Georgian side, because his wasn't the first such attempt. An investigation team is working there,” Gagloeva said.

Meanwhile, Georgian officials have accused South Ossetia of attempting to kill Dmitry Sanakoev, the head of the Tbilisi-controlled temporary government in the republic, not recognised by the South Ossetians.

According to Georgian authorities, his car was attacked on Thursday as he made his way to the Georgian city of Batumi.

South Ossetia declared independence from Georgia in the 1990s but has not been internationally recognised.
