Xi tells Trump maintaining peace on Korean peninsula is China’s unswerving goal

Chinese President Xi Jinping told his US counterpart Donald Trump that it is Beijing’s unswerving goal to maintain peace and stability in northeast Asia and de-nuclearize the Korean peninsula, Xinhua said on Wednesday. The two leaders held talks by telephone, during which Trump asked China to use “all available levers” to influence North Korea. Following the conversation, Trump said additional major sanctions would be imposed on North Korea after Pyongyang said it had tested a new intercontinental ballistic missile, Reuters reported.
