Philando Castile's girlfriend, who recorded fatal police shooting, to receive $800k

Diamond Reynolds, who was in the car with boyfriend Philando Castile when he was fatally shot by a St. Anthony, Minnesota police officer in June 2016, will receive $800,000 from the cities of St. Anthony and Roseville for claims of emotional distress and false arrest, under a settlement announced Tuesday. Reynolds’ 4-year-old daughter was also in the car when she live-streamed the aftermath of the shooting on Facebook, which quickly went viral and spurred protests nationwide. A portion of the settlement will be placed in a trust fund for Reynolds’ daughter’s education, according to Anthony Mayor Jerry Faust. The announcement of the settlement comes five months after St. Anthony agreed to pay Castile’s mother, Valerie Castile, $2.995 million to settle a wrongful death claim.
