‘Any recognition of Jerusalem as Israeli capital is open aggression’ – Arab League

On Tuesday, the Council of the League of Arab States called upon the US to comply with all UN Jerusalem-related resolutions and not move its embassy to the city. “Any recognition of the city of Jerusalem as the capital of the occupying power, the establishment of any diplomatic mission in Jerusalem or its transfer to the city is an open aggression against the Arab nation, the rights of the Palestinian people and all Muslims and Christians,” the Council stated. The issue of Jerusalem entered the spotlight last week amid expectations that US President Donald Trump would decide on the sensitive foreign policy matter on Monday. The White House, however, once again delayed the decision amid world-wide outcry and warnings against the controversial move. Moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem was one of the central promises of Trump’s presidential campaign. The Jerusalem Embassy Act was passed during former President Bill Clinton’s first term in 1995, but has been waived every six months by US presidents since then.
