Turkey to hold early parliamentary, presidential elections on June 24 – Erdogan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday elections will be held on June 24, more than a year earlier than planned. He said the country urgently needed to make the switch to an executive presidency, Reuters reported. According to Erdogan, he made the decision after speaking to the head of the nationalist MHP party, Devlet Bahceli. The previous day, Bahceli floated the prospect of early polls. The parliamentary and presidential elections had previously been slated for November 2019. Erdogan said Tuesday that expected changes to the Turkish constitution will be fully implemented with the presidential elections scheduled for November 2019.
