Drones & fighter jets on display at German expo as opposition says people ‘want peace’ (VIDEO)

Germany is hosting one of its most prestigious expos, the ILA 2018, which showcases state of art aircraft and drones. RT crew looks at what's on display this year, as the German opposition says people want peace.

RT's Peter Oliver visited the major exhibition for the aerospace and defense industries in the German capital, which kicked off this Wednesday.

One of the richest NATO members is showcasing the ultramodern Euro-MALE RPAS, developed in collaboration with France, Italy, and Spain. The Israeli-made medium-altitude long-endurance Heron drone and its more sophisticated version, the Heron TP, were also on display.

On Thursday, German Army Chief Lt-Col Andre Wüstner called for an increase of €15bn ($18bn) in military spending by 2021. The announcement came one day before newly-appointed US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused Berlin of military underfunding. All NATO member states are required to meet a target of two percent of GDP expenditures on defense.

However, opposition politicians are not happy with Germany’s new direction. According to Martin Dolzer, a member of the Parliament of Hamburg from Die Linke party, the education and healthcare systems, not the military, lack financing. “The German population wants peace. The government has to listen to the population,” he told RT.
