Dream job: Airline to pay new hires $4k a month to live in Iceland & travel the world

Icelandic budget airline WOW air has announced a summer job vacancy which involves moving to Reykjavik and doing nothing but wandering the city, as well as posting Instagram stories.

Applicants should be enthusiastic travelers and will serve as the company's first “travel guide.” In addition, whoever the lucky successful applicant is will be allowed to bring a friend.

The guides are expected to move to Iceland’s capital for three months and travel to a few of the airline's 38 destinations. The duo selected by WOW air will stay in a furnished apartment in downtown Reykjavik when they are not travelling around the world. The company will pay each of its digital travelers approximately $4,000 per month.

The job description includes finding the best nightlife, food and local hotspots in places from San Francisco, Paris, Milan, Stockholm, Tel Aviv, London, Dublin and Barcelona among others. The travel guides will be required to take the trips over the course of 10 weeks, starting on June 1. They will stay in each location for two to four days, with all of their accommodation and activities paid for.

“We are always trying to find new and exciting ways to engage with our demographic,” marketing manager of WOW air Erla Bjorgheim Palsdottir told ABC News. “This is a fun way to encourage people to be spontaneous and creative,” she added. “We truly believe that this amazing opportunity will draw some amazing talent our way.”

The applicants should be at least 18 years old and speak English. They are required to create a two-minute travel video about their hometown. The closing date for applications is May 14, and the new guides will be announced on May 18.
