Demonstrations resume in Armenia following opposition leader’s call

Protesters began a march in the Armenian capital, Yerevan Sunday after protest leader Nikol Pashinyan urged supporters to resume demonstrations and block roads following more than two weeks of street protests. Despite “a certain progress,” the MP called on “non-violent actions of civil disobedience,” Interfax quoted him as saying during a Facebook Live broadcast. Armenia has been gripped by mass protests since April 13, following former President Serzh Sargsyan’s election as new prime minister. Sargsyan resigned from the office this week, while the ruling Republican party chose not to run its candidate.
