Matryoshka dolls and more: Russia brings largest arts and crafts exposition to Paris Fair

Matryoshka dolls and more: Russia brings largest arts and crafts exposition to Paris Fair

Russian arts and crafts are represented in the largest ever exposition at this year’s Paris Fair, with clothes, jewelry, dinnerware and world famous Matryoshka nesting dolls impressing visitors in the French capital.

11 enterprises from various regions of the country are displaying their goods under the ‘Made in Russia’ brand. The Russian pavilion, organized by the Expocentre company with the support of the Russian Export Center, covers an area of 96 square meters and is the largest the country ever mounted since first Paris Fair (Foire de Paris) was held in 1904.

The Russian cottage industry producers have brought vases, candles, souvenirs, baskets, dishes, ceramic panels, paintings in batik technique, clothing, accessories, hats, jewelry and bijouterie, dolls, stone-cutting products, pictures from gems and fur items to the event, the Russian Export Center said on its website, adding that the goods “combine national traditions and modernity.”

The Paris Fair is one of the oldest and largest in France – it annually gathers around 2,000 participants from across the globe – and is visited by more than 500,000 people. This year’s fair kicked off last week and is scheduled to conclude on May 8.
