Burkina Faso establishes diplomatic ties with China after rejecting Taiwan

The West African nation of Burkina Faso formally established diplomatic relations with Beijing on Saturday. The agreement was signed just two days after Burkina Faso officially cut ties with Taiwan. The Taiwanese leadership slammed the deal, criticizing Beijing’s policy of discouraging foreign states from recognizing Taiwan’s claimed independence.
