EU extends sanctions against Syrian authorities until June 1, 2019

The European Union has extended sanctions against the Syrian authorities for a year, the press service of the EU Council said on Monday. The statement came after a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels. The restrictive measures against 259 individuals and 67 legal entities will be extended until June 1, 2019, in line with the EU strategy for Syria, the council said. The sanctions against Syria currently in force include an oil embargo, restrictions on certain investments, the freezing of assets of the Syrian Central Bank located in the EU, and export restrictions on certain equipment and technologies, according to RIA Novosti.
