Russian, Turkish leaders reaffirm commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity – Kremlin

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan “reaffirmed commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria” in a phone call on Tuesday, the Kremlin press service said. They continued their “dialogue on the situation in Syria” and emphasized the importance of finding a political solution based on achievements made within the Astana process, according to the statement. The phone call had been initiated by Ankara. Putin and Erdogan also discussed Russian-Turkish relations, focusing on agreements reached at the Ankara meeting of the High-Level Cooperation Council on April 3. In particular, they “welcomed the completion of talks on Russian gas transit via Turkey,” the press service said.
