2 US Osprey aircraft make emergency landings on Japan's Amami Island

Two US Air Force Osprey aircraft made emergency landings at the airport on Amami Island in southwestern Japan on Monday afternoon, Kyodo reported, citing local police and sources in the central government. There were no reports of casualties or damage to the tilt-rotor aircraft. Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera said in Tokyo he had heard that “one of the two Ospreys seems to have had a problem.” The CV-22s made the emergency landings at Amami Airport in Kagoshima Prefecture at around 3pm. The Ospreys, which left Yokota Air Base in the suburbs of Tokyo, were heading to Kadena Air Base in Okinawa Prefecture via Air Station Iwakuni in Yamaguchi Prefecture, according to Onodera.
