South Ossetia puts troops on high alert

South Ossetia claims Georgia has continued firing at the republic's capital Tskhinvali on Sunday night. Russia’s Ministry of foreign Affairs has warned about the intensifying threat of large-scale military conflict betwe

South Ossetia says Tbilisi is moving its artillery units towards the border with the breakaway region, which Georgia strongly denies.

Civilians are being told to leave the immediate trouble spot. They are being accompanied by Russian peacekeepers.

South Ossetian troops were put on high alert following the incidents.

Violence erupted on Friday night, killing at least six people and injuring thirteen.

South Ossetian authorities have appealed to Russia and to the OSCE for their assessment of the recent clashes.
