Forces of Libya’s Haftar reject foreign military presence to stem migration

The forces of Libyan strongman Khalifa Haftar on Friday rejected any foreign military presence in the south of the country to stem migration, AFP reported. EU leaders earlier agreed measures to deter Mediterranean crossings. They want to consider setting up “disembarkation platforms” outside Europe, most likely in North Africa, to discourage migrants from boarding boats bound for Europe. Haftar heads the self-styled Libyan National Army and supports a parallel government in eastern Libya. The administration challenges the authority of the UN-backed Government of National Accord based in the capital Tripoli.
