US judge allows challenge of immigrant protection removal to move forward

US District Judge Denise Casper in Boston has dismissed a bid by the US government to dismiss a lawsuit, which alleges that the Trump administration's decision to strip special protection for immigrants from Honduras, Haiti and El Salvador was racially motivated. The challenge cites statements by President Donald Trump as evidence of his dislike of “Latino and black immigrants.” The temporary protected status, or TPS, shielded the immigrants from deportation even if they arrived in the US illegally, as long as their home countries were affected by natural disasters or civil conflicts.
