Franco-Italian rail link needs to be reviewed – Rome

An ambitious Franco-Italian rail link, known as TAV, has to be reviewed because it’s opposed by the local population and is an obsolete plan, Italy’s deputy prime minister said on Monday. “We have decided the TAV needs to be reviewed,” Reuters quoted Luigi Di Maio, who also serves as industry minister, as saying in a TV interview. He added the work to build the 270km (168 mile) high-speed line could not go on if it continued to be opposed by citizens. Di Maio also said the project was made 30 years ago and it’s now obsolete as freight transportation is now being replaced by more innovative industrial processes.
