Beijing appeals to US ‘to stay calm, correct attitude’ after new tariff threat

China appealed to Washington on Thursday to stay calm and “correct its attitude.” The plea follows a US threat to raise tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods in a dispute over technology policy, AP reported. Beijing is open to dialogue, a Foreign Ministry spokesman, Geng Shuang, said, without giving an indication about the status of possible negotiations. The US Trade Representative announced Wednesday it was considering raising import duties on an additional list of Chinese goods by 25 percent instead of the previously planned 10 percent.
