Nurse charged as two babies die minutes after receiving vaccine

Police in Samoa have pressed charges against a nurse after two babies died within minutes of receiving a vaccine against measles, mumps and rubella. The two one-year-old infants were given the vaccine last month at Safotu District Hospital on the island of Savaii. They both died shortly after being administered the inoculation. The Samoan attorney-general has confirmed that one of the nurses involved in the procedure has been charged and will appear in court next week. In the aftermath of the incident, the Samoan government suspended its nationwide vaccine program and all vials of the vaccine were seized, Newshub reports. The neighboring Cook Islands also suspended its own MMR program because the country uses the same supplier as Samoa. That suspension has since been lifted.
