Russia denies it broke ceasefire

The Russian military has said that keeping its troops on Georgian territory is not a breach of the ceasefire agreement. A spokesman said Russian troops were maintaining positions around Gori, but insisted this was only t

He added that Russian forces did not assault Gori, which borders South Ossetia.

The military also said it had lifted a blockade on the flashpoint town, opening the way for much needed humanitarian aid.

Meanwhile, the leader of Gori’s local administration reported that at least 6,000 civilians had returned to the town.

They are now receiving relief supplies, water and electricity.
