Meghan McCain accuses Whoopi Goldberg of finding terrorism ‘funny’ in voting rights debate

The conversation on daytime talk show ‘The View’ descended into an unusually sharp shouting match after Meghan McCain had a rather emotional reaction to Bernie Sanders’ comments about felons being allowed to vote.

During a CNN town hall, Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders raised some eyebrows when pressed on his comments to extend voting rights to felons. The Vermont senator drew fire when he said that even “terrible people” like Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev should be able to participate in the country’s elections.

Meghan McCain was not having it, invoking her brothers’ military service records and rising terrorism statistics to highlight her outrage at Sanders’ proposal for allegedly being light on the issue.

“It's not hard to say the Boston terrorist was a psycho lunatic who is a threat not only to national security but shouldn't be allowed the right to vote in any election,” McCain exclaimed.

When her co-host Sunny Hostin started to challenge the emotional response and consider the question in more detached legal terms, it only seemed to stir the pot more. As other hosts began to weigh in, McCain switched to a far less subtle method of debate, demanding to know if anyone at the table thinks that a “terrorist that killed three Americans and injured 264 should have the right to vote.” She also called on Bernie Sanders and Kamala Harris to say that “there are true monsters in this world.”

Whoopi Goldberg caught the brunt of the rage after hypothetically suggesting that a reformed criminal who authorities had agreed to release should be allowed to become a citizen again. The comments incited an outright shouting match as the hosts struggled to make their point heard.

Seeing Whoopi chuckling in the midst of the disorder, McCain had some harsh words: “Maybe you think terrorism is funny, I do not.”

As it turned out, Goldberg was actually just trying to signal that producers were pleading with her to move to a commercial break.
