'Did Salah kill a pigeon!?': Perplexed fans accuse striker of hitting dead bird with shot (VIDEO)

'Did Salah kill a pigeon!?': Perplexed fans accuse striker of hitting dead bird with shot (VIDEO)

Fans were left baffled when a dead pigeon appeared on the pitch during Liverpool's 5-0 demolition of already-relegated Huddersfield, with some accusing Reds striker Mohamed Salah of killing the feathered creature with a shot.

Jurgen Klopp's men regained top spot over Manchester City with just two games left to play in the Premier League, although City have one game in hand over the leaders, but special attention was given to a deceased pigeon during a rather routine win at Anfield on Friday.

At first, some fans couldn't believe their eyes as the small, gray, feathered object appeared on screen as cameras captured Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge, laying motionless on the pitch as play continued.

When fans realized the figure was in fact a pigeon, it didn't take long for droves of social media users to morbidly poke fun, and compare the beaked intruder to various players, including Salah himself, claiming that the pigeon went down in the box just like the Egyptian striker, and declaring that he had been the "best player not he pitch" for bottom-placed Huddersfield.

Some even went one step further and blamed last season's PFA Players' Player of the Year with killing the pigeon with a powerful shot that connected with the pigeon mid-flight, and caused the demise of the poor bird on the hallowed Anfield turf.

The internet was also on hand to create a Twitter account for the pigeon, announcing the winged creature's fate as being simply dumped in an Anfield bin, tweeting out to its handful of amassed followers from beyond the grave.

In one of the title race's more sombre tales, the Liver bird of the Reds made an ascent to the top of the league table, put into perspective against the descent into everlasting darkness of the unlucky pigeon.

On the pitch, a first-minute goal from Naby Keita opened the scoring for the Reds, followed by a brace a piece from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, the latter pairing occupying first and second spots respectively in the race for the Premier League golden boot with totals of 21 and 20 for the season.

Salah was also the subject of another talking point from the game, his sit-down celebration had fans loving the cool meditation vibe of Liverpool's red-hot target man.
