'They should be ashamed!' Fans admonish Man United as club miss out on Champions League

Manchester United fans have laid into their team after the club missed out on a Premier League top four place and Champions League football with a paltry 1-1 draw to already relegated Huddersfield on Sunday.

Going into the game, United's slim chances of qualifying for next season's Champions League were still alive, knowing that only victory in their last two games of the season and favorable results elsewhere would see them finish in the top four of the Premier League.

Fans reacted with disgust to their team's disappointing showing. TV personality Piers Morgan even went as far to suggest the club no longer had the right to call themselves a "big club".

Things got off to a flying start for the Old Trafford club when young midfielder Scott McTominay opened the scoring after only eight minutes but Huddersfield, who have amassed just 15 points from their 37 games all season and are rooted to the bottom of the league, always looked like scoring.

And they did just that in the second half. The home side broke away from heir own penalty area from a United corner, keeper Jonas Lossl punting the ball downfield for Belgian striker Isaac Mbenza to score his first goal for the club.

Mbenza unusually marked his goal by booting the corner flag, which caused a five-minute delay as club officials struggled to replace it, resulting in eight minutes of stoppage time.

United play Cardiff City at home on Sunday on the final day of the season knowing that they are all but mathematically destined to finish the season in sixth place.
