Nebraska active shooter situation resolved after hours of shelter in place alert, 1 person hospitalized

Authorities in Nebraska's Adams County have lifted an active shooter warning hours after an overnight gun incident. One person was taken to hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot injury.

Residents of the village of Juniata and the western part of Hastings, Nebraska were told to stay inside their homes and lock all windows and doors on Tuesday night as law enforcement responded to an active shooter situation.

The emergency happened in the eastern part of Juniata, a small community located 6km (3.5 miles) west of Hastings, the county seat of Adams County. The alert was lifted some three hours later, though few details about what happened were immediately offered to the public.

One person was taken to hospital with a gunshot injury to the arm. The police said it was not life-threatening.

The Nebraska State Patrol and local authorities responded to the situation. A patrol air wing helicopter was seen flying over Juniata but was recalled after the emergency was resolved.

The apparent scene of the shooting remained closed by the police investigating the incident.
