U.S. Congress to hear Iraq war report

Two top U.S. officials in Iraq are to testify before Congress on the state of the war.

In January, President George W. Bush ordered 30,000 more troops to Iraq in an effort to help stabilise the country. General David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker are giving their assessment as to whether the President's troop surge plan has worked.

The top U.S. commander in Iraq General David Petraeus will be delivering a long-awaited report, in which he is expected to highlight security gains made by the U.S. in Iraq since the introduction of 30,000 more American troops.

Ryan Crocker, the other official to give his assesments, has been an ambassador in Baghdad since March 2007. He will speak about political and economic gains and Iraqi reconciliation.

According to the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, 53% of respondents say that General Petraeus will try to make things look better than they are.
