Mishap with U.S. satellite fixed

A U.S. communications satellite, which failed to reach its intended orbit, is now under control. However the Russian-launched satellite is reportedly in a lower orbit than intended. The American company which owns the satellite must now decide on its futu

The satellite developed problems with its booster after being successfully launched from the Baikonur space in Kazakhstan on Friday.

The AMC-14 satellite was to provide telecommunication services to the United States for at least 15 years. It weighed approximately 4 tonnes at lift-off.

Proton rockets are marketed by International launch services – a joint Russian-American venture.

The launch was the company's second this year, with some 40 more planned.
