Russia kicks the vodka habit as wine lovers cork it in the capital

Russia is not all about vodka, as in the bright lights of Moscow many people are celebrating Beaujolais Nouveau Day. Wine-lovers are out sampling the fruity French red in bars across the city.

Traditionally, the festivities on this day take place in the French restaurants and bars of Moscow, but this year other locales have tuned in. Special offers are in store for visitors promising unlimited amounts of the young French wine “Beaujolais Nouveau”.

More than 120 countries celebrate the day, continuing the longstanding tradition that was begun as a PR campaign in the mid-20th century in France.

Moscow joins the global celebration this year for the 11th time.
