Thousands gather to protest abortion in Washington

Abortion – a matter of choice or murder? Anti- abortion activists have gathered in Washington D.C for their annual March for Life protest. Planned parenthood clinics in the capital fear that protestors will harass their patients.

The issue of abortion remains controversial for the American society since the historic Supreme Court Roe v. Wade ruling, which legalized abortion in the United States.

On Thursday, the 36th anniversary of the ruling, thousands of people from all over the country came to the capital to protest abortion.

“I believe that God has a plan for everything and that includes whether you have a baby or not,” said one of the protestors. “Having an abortion is just killing what you have created and what God allowed you to have.”

“There’s no good reason to kill a child,” says another. “There is just no good reason. Unborn children are human beings. They’re not frogs, they’re not plants. They’re human beings like you and me.”

Still, on the other side of town, volunteers help to protect people who are often harassed by protestors because they seek services at the planned parenthood clinic.

“There are numerous we call them antis, anti-choice protestors, who are in town, and so we come out to make sure that they don’t block access to the clinic,” said one of the volunteers.

The protestors often leave tourists confused and there are plenty of those in the nation’s capital.

“We get quite a few international tourists who kind of wander by and are kind of astounded,” said the volunteer. “We tell them that there are people who want to prevent people, that want to prevent women and families from getting reproductive healthcare at this clinic. And we’re here to make sure that that doesn’t happen.”

The new American president is known to supports abortion rights.
