Talks on financial sanctions against North Korea resume

Talks on financial sanctions against North Korea resume

The United States and North Korea have claimed they will resume talks next week on U.S. sanctions against Pyongyang. Discussions in December ended without progress.

The financial restrictions – imposed on the Communist Regime over its alleged counterfeiting of U.S. currency and money laundering – have been a sticking point in separate talks on North Korea's nuclear activities.

The new negotiations come amid efforts to restart six-party talks including Russia, aimed at persuading North Korea to halt its nuclear programme.
