X-Fighters win Moscow audience

Moscow has hosted the famous Red Bull X-Fighters competition for the first time. With more than 40,000 spectators watching, the world's best freestyle motocross riders showed off their skills on Red Square.

Seeing the world's top motocross freestylers in action with their own eyes is what thousands of Muscovites have been dreaming of for years. It finally came true, as the Russian capital hosted the third leg of the famous X-Fighters world tour on Saturday night.

Over 40,000 onlookers were there on Red Square to watch the best 12 riders in the world wage their spectacular battle in front of the Kremlin's walls with one of that magnificent dozen the best Russian in the sport, Aleksey Kolesnikov.

The 26-year-old was the first to jump in the air of Red Square and take the home crowd's breath away, but an exciting performance by the Russian was not enough to claim anything better than eleventh place on the night.

However, Kolesnikov was far from being upset. Neither were the spectators, who felt lucky to attend one of the most dazzling events of their lives.

“Fantastic show! It's quite a new experience for us and we'd like them to arrange such events here in Moscow every year!” said one of the spectators.

“Great show! Great riders! And Nate Adams – the best one!” echoed another fan.

Adams could have been the right man to bet on. In 2009 the 26-year-old American was keen to clinch the title of the Red Bull X-Fighters Champion. After reaching the final, he got very close to jumping equally high in Moscow. But this time around, it was a rising star that shone.

New Zealand's Levy Sherwood, who is the youngest pro rider in the world, produced the most impressive showcase. A number of stunning tricks quickly made the 18-year-old an idol for the Moscow FMX fans.

Now it is a safe bet that just as soon as this fantastic show on Red Square came to an end, Moscow started looking forward to an X-Fighters comeback.
