Military cargo as a way to stability

In exchange for allowing the American military to use its airspace for cargo on its way to Afghanistan, Russia is expecting to gain some political leeway with the U.S., says political analyst Sergey Utkin.

Russia hopes to restore relations with the U.S. and the NATO alliance. Also, Moscow is interested in bringing stability to the highly volatile region.

A military transit agreement between Russia and the U.S. is to go into force on Sunday.
