Sochi 2014 construction well on schedule

The construction of Olympic facilities for the 2014 Winter Games are well underway in Sochi, the Russian delegation said in its report to the International Olympic Committee in Denmark.

Dmitry Kozak, Russia's deputy prime minister, who's responsible for the 2014 Games, stressed it's a priority project for the country, and that its budget will not be cut despite the economic crisis.

”Russia began the construction of Olympic sites a year earlier than host countries usually do. We're convinced that we can finish the work on time. It's in full swing – and that’s despite the challenges we're facing,” Dmitry Kozak said.

The Head of the 2014 Coordination Committee, Jean-Claude Killy, praised Russia's success in developing its infrastructure and ensuring environmental stability.

The Southern Russian city of Sochi won the bid to host the Winter Olympic Games in July 2007.
