Americans hammer international team to clinch President’s Cup

Tiger Woods sunk the decisive putt to hand the Americans the President’s Cup. They defeated the international team by five points to claim their sixth title ever.

The Americans started the day with a commanding three-point lead and soon edged towards the magic winning total of 17.

Stewart Cink gave them a good start with victory over Adam Scott in the first singles match.

More wins followed with Hunter Mahen getting the better of Camilio Villegras, Anthony Kim winning his match against Robert Allenby, and Sean O'Hair breaking the resistance of Ernie Els.

And those wins meant it was set up nicely for Woods to clinch the trophy. He had won all four of his matches before his singles contest with Ye Yang, and his sparkling form continued.

He wrapped up victory by the 13th hole – a bit of revenge for the world number one, who'd lost to Yang in the PGA championship, and yet another win for the Americans who've won this competition six times out of the last eight.
