Russian musclemen “lay an egg” at the Battle of Moscow festivities

Russian musclemen have made an attempt to set a new world record by moving a giant plane with their bare hands. The attempt, though, remained just that: an attempt.

The four strongmen moved the Ilyushin IL-86, weighing 155 tonnes, using brute force alone.

With the help of straps and a ladder, the athletes managed to pull the plane a modest distance of 20 centimeters, instead of the planned 10 meters, and failed to break the world record.

Designed and tested in the Soviet Union in 1970s, the Ilyushin was the first wide-bodied airliner in the country.

As well as marking 68 years since the Battle of Moscow, the event was part of wider celebrations for the upcoming 65th anniversary of victory in World War Two.
