Every sixth American lives in poverty

34 million Americans are relying on the food stamp program for everyday essentials. It’s mostly the elderly who are suffering.

Every sixth American is now living in poverty, which is seven million more than the government originally thought.

Toan Lam, founder of ‘Go Inspire Go’ non-governmental organization, spoke about the people who set up tents along the river, seeing no way out.

“I started my website about six months ago, one of the first stories I had was from my hometown of Sacramento in California”.

In that story he told about people in a tent city, those who lost their jobs in this economy of today, and having nowhere else to go, set up tents and cabins.

“But these are middle-class families, many of them just a paycheck away from losing everything,” Lam said.
