US will welcome request to withdraw nukes from Germany

The newly reelected government of Chancellor Angela Merkel has promised to get the US to remove the nuclear weapons deployed in Germany since the early years of the Cold War.

“I think America will welcome the request,” Hans Kristensen, director of the Nuclear Information Project of the Federation of American Scientists, to RT. “For a long period we’ve heard officials in the US government, both in White House and also the Department of Defense, say they would prefer those weapons to be removed from Europe – simply because they complicate relations with the Russians and it costs money, it drains resources from the Air Force that has to maintain this equipment, personal bases, aircraft, etc.”
