Demonstrators ask to rewrite constitution in Ecuador

Demonstrators ask to rewrite constitution in Ecuador

In Ecuador, supporters of the leftist President Rafael Correa have stormed the Congress building. The demonstrators have been demanding a referendum on rewriting the country's constitution.

It comes after Correa's statement that some measures were necessary to limit the power of Ecuador's traditional parties, which he blames for the country's problems.

The initiative, however, was stalled when the electoral court sent it to Congress, where the new President has few supporters.

Now the protestors are ready to back the president's request and put force behind his words.
